Nearly 100 foster children will receive Christmas gifts this year, due to the generosity of DRS employees.
Since 2002, DRS Test and Energy Management (TEM) in Huntsville, Alabama, has partnered with the Foster Children’s Alliance, or FOCAL, to make sure that local foster children enjoy a very merry Christmas. Over the past eight years, DRS employees have adopted more than 700 children as part of the partnership.
According to FOCAL board member Terry Bell, foster parents generally receive a minimal amount of money per child and often are unable to afford gifts. The sponsorship fills in the gaps.
The children range in age from infant to teen. DRS TEM employees participating in the program select a child to sponsor and are asked to spend a minimum amount depending on the age.
According to Melissa Donaldson, from DRS TEM’S human resources department, employees tend to spend more than that amount.
“We always seem to go a bit overboard,” says Donaldson, “Those kids just deserve so much.”
