Finmeccanica Selected for Dow Jones Sustainability Index
Finmeccanica has been selected for the 2011 Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) and DJSI Europe. Following a best-in-class approach, the DJSI indexes track the performance of the top 10 percent of companies in the Dow Jones Global Total Stock Market Index that outperform their peers in terms of sustainability. This is the second consecutive year that Finmeccanica has achieved this honor, and it is the only aerospace and defense company to be listed on both indexes.
To be included in the DJSI indexes, the world's 2,500 largest companies from 57 sectors are invited to report on the implementation and performance of their sustainability programs, including environmental, charitable, ethical and financial. Companies identified as ahead of the curve are selected for the DJSI World and its regional subsets. Once chosen, a company is monitored daily.
"The Dow Jones Sustainability Index is the gold standard for responsible companies," says David Sweet, vice president of Business Compliance and Sustainability for DRS Corporate, who led DRS' efforts to gather much of the information required for the DJSI application. "This is wonderful recognition for our employees' hard work and commitment to the key elements of sustainability, and is also an excellent incentive for DRS to continue to raise the bar on our performance." David adds that the listing reflects not only DRS' commitment to reducing lost-time injuries and improving environmental performance, but the company's commitment to world-class ethics and compliance programs, charitable endeavors and activities to help local communities.
